Friedrich Engels arrived in Manchester in 1842 and documented the plight of the city's working classes in The Condition of the Working Class in England (1845).
172 years after Friedrich Engels has published The Condition of the Working Class in England (1845) Turner Prize-nominated artist Phil Collins is returnied a starue of Engels to the city where he made his name - in the form of a Soviet-era statue, driven across Europe and permanently installed in the centre of Manchester as the closing event of Manchester International Festival 2017.

the screen on wich delete beach, an animee with an distopian story, is shown hangs in a dark landscape. mist wafts around hills of shredded rubber that protude into the darkness of the space. oil lakes lie between the hills and bubble slowly in interaction with the movie. the screen reflects in one of them. coloured spotlights interact with the film as well and create drifting shadows that bring the landscape to life.
